Adult Acne Solved!

by: Kirsten Hawkins

Acne has always been a dreaded occurrence in our life. Most of us have carried this burden in our teenage years and after almost seven teenage years we think we are finally home free. Then one morning in your twenty sixth, twenty seventh or even twenty eighth year of your existence you wake up with a huge zit on you face. And even worst, sometimes it is not just one but two or even three or even four! And they just keep on sprouting like weeds in an inhibited garden! So you wonder, I?m already an adult so why, why, WHY?

Adult acne is more common than we thought. Almost five percent of adults have adult acne mostly in their twenties, thirties and even forties and beyond. Adult acne can be found in the face and sometimes even on the neck and on the chest and back area. There are many reasons for the occurrence of these devils incarnates and we will enumerate them here plus ways on how to outsmart them.

Adult Acne Source Number 1: those pesky hormones

And we all thought we are done with having problems caused by them! Apparently, they still have a last attack. Experts still can?t pinpoint the main reason why our oil glands are more prone to breakouts because of hormonal shifts in this age line. Unfortunately, these up and down hormonal shifts are the main culprit in adult acne. But fortunately, there?s an easy cure for these shifts and that is the common birth control pill. But take note that this is not applicable to you if you are pregnant. For stubborn and hard to kill zits, you may also use medication that has the ingredient retinoids that can help unclog those pores. If still doesn?t work then it?s high time to up your ammunition. Use antibiotics (may be topical or even oral) to reduce the swelling.

Adult Acne Source Number 2: stress

Stress is also a major source of adult acne. But we can?t help it, can we? Our world is full of stress inducing situation and things that it is already a part of our daily lives. We have bills to pay, kids to feed and a house to clean. So much stress we endure in a day that it results to the dreaded adult acne. This happens because stress triggers the body to secrete cortisol that results in the secretion of more hormones thus resulting to zits. So what do we do when the bump pops? Relax! Do some de-stressing. Go on a vacation or just spend a day doing nothing. Eat right, sleep right and do your exercise routine regularly. If your darn acne are still there after doing these things for a month or two then it is high time to see your dermatologist for some treatment and prescription.

Adult Acne Source Number 3: Daily Grooming Products

It is a fact that as we grow older we tend to become more vain especially in our twenties to thirties when we are still finding our ideal mate. We tend to use a lot of products to make ourselves more attractive to the opposite sex. Unfortunately, this only results to adult acne as these products tend to block pores which can result to zits erupting like crazy in our pretty little faces. How ironic, isn?t it? We bought and used these products to make ourselves more pretty only to have these little craters embed in our face. So what to do? Simplify! You don?t need all these products to make yourself pretty. Just use basics like moisturizer, cleanser and sun block. Purchase cosmetics that are noncomedogenic and make sure that they are oil free especially your moisturizer. And always remember your acne 101: do not touch your face or rest your pretty little chin in your grubby little hands!

About The Author

Kirsten Hawkins is a freelance writer specializing in skin conditions such as acne and rosacea.
Adam Waxler's Top Five Diet Foods

by: Adam Waxler

As the owner of several weight loss ebooks and weight loss web sites I am often asked, ?What are the best all around diet foods??

My first response is to tell people that there are no magic diet foods that will help you lose weight fast, and it is important to understand that most people must make lifestyle changes that include a permanent change in their diet (not a fad diet, or temporary diet), and exercise must play a role in any weight loss program.

Once people understand these basic elements to any weight loss program I feel much better explaining to them what I believe are the best diets foods in existence because what you eat will have a big effect on how quickly you lose weight, and more importantly, how long you keep the weight off.

There are certain foods that you really should be eating on a regular basis. They come from all food categories, but every one of these diet foods has one thing in common: they pack a lot of nutritional punch into their calories. Here's a list of five diet foods that will help you stay healthy and lose weight.

1. Whole grain breads

If you've been paying attention to latest weight loss fads, you know that carbs are the current diet buster. Many weight loss programs claim that if you just stay away from all carbs you'll lose weight no matter what else you eat. That's not only wrong, it's downright dangerous for both your health and your diet.

Instead of cutting out carbs, you should be aiming to reduce carbs to a healthy portion of your diet - which most doctors agree is about 50-60% of your caloric intake. That means that if you're on a 1500 calorie a day diet, you should be striving to get about 900 calories a day from grains, fruits and vegetables. Whole grain breads pack a lot of nutritional value. Replace your two slices of white toast with 1/2 a cup of oatmeal or whole grain cereal, and for about the same number of calories, you'll be getting three times the vitamins, amino acids and roughage that your body needs to function. You'll feel full far longer, too - because you've given your body something to work on that will take a while to digest.

2. Fish

Eat at least three servings of fish per week. Fish is low in fat, is high in protein, and provides something that most other proteins don't - omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 3 is one of the main building blocks in your cells. If your body doesn't get enough Omega 3 fatty acids, it will try to build cells from other fatty acids. The problem is that those cells are not as flexible, and not quite the right shape. Among the cells that aren't quite right are the ones in your brain that help control impulses and tell your body what it needs. By providing enough Omega 3 fatty acids for your body to use, you'll be healing the damage done through years of poor diet. And since fish, as a general rule, has fewer calories than most meats, you'll be saving calories as well. Just remember that you're replacing portions of meat with fish, not adding them to what you already eat.

3. Spinach

Spinach is one of the lowest cost sources of nutrition you can give your body with 13 calories and 2 grams of carbohydrate in 2 cups of chopped raw spinach. Every serving gives you folic acid, manganese, beta-carotene, protein, lutein (a potent anti-oxidant), magnesium, vitamin C and vitamin K. You can eat it raw in salads, steamed as a side dish, or saut?ed in a tiny bit of oil for a different taste, and still get all the nutritional benefits.

4. Olive Oil

Have you every heard of the Mediterranean diet? Well, as it turns out, olive oil is a mono-unsaturated fat that is the primary source of fat in the so-called Mediterranean diet. Your body does need a little fat to process vitamins and use them properly. It contains antioxidants, flavonoids, beta-carotene and vitamin E, among other things. One tablespoon has a whopping 125 calories, but drizzled on a 13 calorie spinach salad with a little lemon juice and some garlic, you still have a meal with less than 150 calories - and a whole lot of healthy fuel for your body.

5. Pink Grapefruit

With only 40 calories in half a grapefruit, you're getting 45 mg of vitamin C, lycopene, pectin, beta-carotene and potassium. It's versatile and tasty. Eat it as is for breakfast, or toss it into a salad with spinach for an extra punch to perk up the nutritional quality of your diet.

As stated earlier, the best weight loss plan combines a healthy lifelong diet with daily exercise. And, your diet should not be based around any single one ingredient. The best way to lose weight is to eat a healthy variety of foods to make sure that you get all the essential nutrients that you need each day. The diet foods mentioned above are five of the best diet foods that should be included as part of any weight loss program and diet plan.

Copyright 2006 Adam Waxler

About The Author

Adam Waxler publishes a series of weight loss information products including his new weight loss resource filled with with FREE weight loss articles and tips @ http://www.1-800-Weight-Loss.com.

5 Killer Ways To Treat Athlete?s Foot

by: Daphne Cameron

If you?ve got an itch on your foot that you can?t help scratching, then you might have a dreaded case of athlete?s foot. But there?s no need to worry because here are five ways that you can treat yourself?no doctor and no prescriptions needed.

Head over to the store

Your best cure for athlete?s foot might be available at your local grocery mart or drug store. Look for creams and ointments that contain clotrimazole or miconazole as their active ingredient. These are topical creams that can be directly applied to the feet.

All you need to do is reapply the cream after you shower to clean, dry feet and then cover with a pair of cotton socks. The cream should be reapplied two to three times a day after that for about two to three weeks.

Going the natural route

Another great way to treat athlete?s foot is similar to the store method, but with a more natural oil. Tea tree oil is known for its antifungal properties and works to destroy the fungus on the feet.

You?ll need to start with clean and dry feet and then apply the oil to the affected areas. You can do this several times a day for as long as it takes to cure the symptoms.

And it makes your feet smell great.

Cures from the kitchen

When you want to get rid of your athlete?s foot, you may just have to open up a few cupboards. Both baking soda and vinegar have been shown to help with treating this fungal condition?though not at the same time.

For the baking soda, you can soak the feet in a mixture of the powder and warm water. And if you have apple cider vinegar around, use that instead of the baking soda.

Getting your feet clean of fungus

Some will tell you that soaking your feet in bleach is also a good alternative for treating athlete?s foot. However, this has to be done carefully or you might injure your feet. You should only use two tablespoons of regular laundry bleach in a gallon of warm water.

Soak your feet for ten minutes and you can see results within a week?s time.

Scaring away the itchiness and redness

And while garlic is great for vampires, it?s even better for athlete?s foot. This is because the antibiotic ingredients in the garlic help to cure the infection. Just rub a clove of garlic (one that?s been cut in half) over the affected area a few times per day.

But with all of these ways of treating athlete?s foot, the best advice is to avoid getting it in the first place. Make sure that your feet are kept dry and avoid walking on your bare feet in conditions that are likely to harbor the fungus?public showers and shoe stores where you try on the shoes without a barrier.

And of course, good hygiene will always keep your feet clean and happy, and hopefully free from itching.

About The Author

Daphne Cameron is a fitness and wellness coach and owner of http://www.athletes-foot-info.info and http://www.athletes-foot-info.info where you can find useful tips and guides on athletes foot.

Aromatherapy for a Broken Heart

by: Johnetta Miner

The heart is a very fragile and strong organ. It is the center of
our being and a very vulnerable focal point. The heart plays a
role in every function of the body. It can be ?hurt?, ?lost? and
left in San Francisco. It can also ?skip a beat? or be attacked
by a stroke. Our heart is our life force and in Chinese medicine
it is the fire element. Yet it can ?fail? us, as in heart
failure. The heart has rhythm and can block, just not in a
football game. Sometime, our heart talks to us with sounds and
murmurs. There are some people who listen to their hearts speak
to them while others have not listened and may have taken a path
of least resistance. There is time, however, that we all listen
when our heart speaks to us. That time is when there is what is
called a broken heart.

When the heart is broken, a spectrum of feelings is manifested.
These feelings consist of hurt, pain, anger, sadness, relief
and forgiveness. In the process of living with these feelings
and going through the experience of having a broken heart, what
happens physically and emotionally to women?

In my practice, many women have scheduled an appointment with me
for an annual gynecological examination or they were returning
for their weekly obstetrical examination. Within the first few
minutes of interviewing the patient about her medical history
since the last visit, I realize there is a strong emotional and
physical component to the visit that is not directly related to
what is considered a routine exam. In essence, the emotional and
physical components are indicative of a broken heart. I make a
holistic assessment of the patient?s medical history, emotional,
spiritual, physical and clinical findings. These cases may
warrant a referral to a specialist, depending on her status at
that moment. A follow up visit is always scheduled.

Throughout time, it has been said individuals have died of a
broken heart. For instance, a wife died and then her husband
died from natural causes within a week or a sister died and her
sibling died naturally very soon thereafter. Were the
subsequent deaths just a coincidence or did they die from a
broken heart?

Researchers have started scientifically looking at such cases
and calling it the Broken Heart Syndrome. In health care
terminology we call this condition stress Cardiomyopathy.
Cardiomyopathy is heart muscle weakness. It can occur after
various emotional and physical stressors such as fear, surprise,
anger and the death of a loved one. Stress cardiomyopathy
affects primarily women and occurs most frequently in middle
aged women and women over age sixty. Many of the women that
have been studied have no prior history of heart disease and the
majorities are postmenopausal. There is no known reason for the
increase frequency in women in these age groups and
postmenopausal women in particular. Physical stressors can fuel
a stroke or seizure and as mentioned emotional stressors such as
fear, grief and anger can cause this condition.

Women with dis-stressed can suddenly and unexpectedly experience
a heavy feeling in the chest, shortness of breath, abnormal
rhythm of the heart, low blood pressure, congestive heart
failure and shock. It can be life threatening. She may appear
sad, express feelings of sadness, lock of concentration and
difficulty sleeping at night. The good news is there can also be
a quick and complete recovery.

Aromatherapy is a fantastic complementary therapy. One hundred
percent essential oils are more potent than herbs ?less is
better than more. They are volatile oils which are obtained
directly from the root, flower petals, leaves or skins of fruit.
The price can range from approximately five dollars to several
hundred dollars for a half ounce. It takes 2000 pounds of rose
petals to make one pound of oil. Therefore there is a variance
in the cost of essential oils. The essential oils widely used to
restore the heart are Rose Otto, Jasmine sambac, Neroli,
Rosewood, and Lavender. Essential oil blends can be used through
inhalation and application methods. They can be inhaled by using
a diffuser, sniffed directly from the bottle (less expensive
oils) or they can be used in the bath/shower or through vapor
and nebulizer. They can be applied by massage or as perfume oil.

Lavender has a long history as a medicine and perfume. In
Chinese medicine it circulates heart Qi. It can restore
vitality, relieve tension and calm a person. Dried lavender buds
can be added to the bath or a tea can be made from the dried
herb. To make a single note lavender perfume oil add three drops
of 100% Highland or Bulgarian lavender essential oil to one
tablespoon of jojoba oil. Jojoba oil is a stable carrier oil,
won?t rancid and is relatively odorless.
The benefits of essential oils are numerous. However, care must
be taken in using them. Aromatherapy is very technical. One oil
can cancel out the effects of another oil. Some oils are toxic
and what may benefit one person may have no effect on another
person. One fragrance may be pleasant to one person and
offensive to another. Determine which oil is best for you. Our
behavior is affected by the aromatic scent. They also help the
body regulate itself and come into balance. Therefore the
stressors and feelings produced by a broken are relieved with
the consistent use of aromatherapy.

About The Author

Johnetta Miner, NP, is the founder and President of Johnetta
Miner, NP.
5 Tips to Save Money Online

by: Savotron.com

Are you looking to save money on everything you buy? The good news is that it is much easier to save money at online stores, than to do that at offline stores. On the Internet you can find the same stores, same products, and everything else you need, without having to leave the house to shop. And, the products are mailed to your doorstep, so that you don't have to carry the products from the store to the car and from the car to the house.

Here are five different ways for you to save money on all of your online purchases:

- Know what you need. Just like with regular shopping, having a shopping list really helps. When you know you need to purchase a dress, a shirt and a pair of shoes, you will not overspend; rather, you will shop for the items on your list.

- Compare prices. Once great thing about the Internet, is that you can compare prices at different stores, before making a buying decision. This is especially important when you are looking for a big item - a computer, TV or a camera. Look around a few web stores, before deciding on the store and particular item to buy.

- Look for coupons. Some online stores offer coupons every once in a while. Here is how they work - you get a coupon code, and when you complete a purchase at a store, you use the code to get a discount.

- Purchase things in advance. Don't wait till the last day to buy birthday gifts, decorations, and everything else. You might not be able to find discounts if you have to buy something immediately.

Instead, have a long list of gifts you need to buy the year, clothing, decorations, etc, and buy when you find a coupon, or see them on sale.

For example, the best time to buy Christmas decorations is right after Christmas - that is when they go on sale.

- Shop sales. Many online stores have a Sales or Clearance Sales section on their web sites. Browse those sections first - you might find an unexpected good deal there, just waiting for you.

Be a smart online shopper - use coupons, sales and discounts to save money on everything you need.

About The Author

Savotron.com is a great web site to get deals online. Visit Coupons, Sales and Discounts Blog at http://savotron.com/savings/ for coupons, deals and special savings at your favorite online stores.
